The Lakes of the Orient Forest special conservation zone covers 58,255 acres (23,575 ha) across 21 municipalities. It is included in the Orient Forest Regional Nature Park. The Lac d'Orient (Orient Lake) is a refuge for dozens of bird species, like common cranes, egrets, or storks, that come to its waters to feed, nest, or rest on their migration route. The lake is also home to a varied mammal fauna consisting of deers, foxes, wild boars, or coypus. Located only 7.5 mi (12 km) from the city of Troyes, Orient Lake constitutes a green lung for the region's inhabitants.
