Saint-Nicolas bridge, the first Joigny bridge

Saint-Nicolas bridge - named after the patron saint of mariners like the quay and the contiguous port for wines and coaches - connects the left bank to the old town of Joigny. It was the first bridge built over the Yonne at an unknown date but probably at the same time as the bridge gate. It already existed in the 12th century since Count Guillaume authorized the Saint-Thomas commandery to build a large mill in the middle of the bridge next to the guard post.
