The highest point of the Cévennes

Known as Mount Losera in Occitan, Mont Lozère is a mostly granitic mountain in the southeast of Massif Central, in the department to which it gave its name. It is the highest point of the Cévennes with 5,574 ft (1,699 m), and the Tarn takes its source on its southern slope. Mont Lozère is home to subalpine grasslands above 4,920 ft (1,500 m) where thousands of sheep transhume every year over more than 14,826 acres (6,000 ha). Its base essentially consists of granite composed of micas, feldspar, and quartz, and bad weather often creates granite blockfields.
