Inaugurated in 1969, Saint-Agnan Lake is the most recent artificial lake in the Morvan region. It was born from the construction of a dam on the Cousin, a Burgundian river tributary of the Cure and, therefore, sub-tributary of the Yonne and the Seine. Some 1.5 miles (2.5 km) long and 1,640 ft (500 m) wide, Saint-Agnan Lake occupies an area of 346 acres (140 ha) at an altitude of 1,837 ft (560 m) in the locality of Saint-Agnan, in the heart of the Morvan Regional Nature Park.
