Sometimes considered the richest in the world, the Vaucluse ocher deposit is the most important in France. It is divided between two basins: Mormoiron and Apt, the largest and more prosperous of the two. Located on the territory of the municipalities of Gargas, Gignac, Roussillon, Rustrel, and Villars, the Apt basin stretches from west to east over 12.4 mi (20 km) by 1.8 mi (3 km) from north to south.
