‘La Cité de la Mer’ in Cherbourg is located in the former Transatlantic Ferry Terminal. This Norman tourist site dedicated to the sea and the adventures that surround it was inaugurated on April 29, 2002. The former terminal which houses it, the largest French monument in the Art Deco style of the 1930s, was built by René Levavasseur on the port of Cherbourg. Its biggest attractions are undoubtedly Le Redoutable, the largest submarine that can be visited in the world, and the ‘Titanic, Return to Cherbourg’ exhibition, inaugurated 100 years after the ship’s sinking.
