Lake Aydat is located in the Puy-de-Dôme department, inside the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park. It extends 12.4 miles (20 km) southwest of Clermont-Ferrand, at an altitude of 2,706 ft (825 m). Its 160.6 acres (65 ha) area makes it the largest natural lake in the Auvergne region. Distant by 2,198 ft (670 m) from shore to shore, it can easily be crossed by swimming. The depth of Lake Aydat's waters does not exceed 49 ft (15 m).
