The Regional Nature Park of the Orient Forest is a natural sanctuary covering more than 173,000 acres (70,000 ha) in the Aube department. Following significant floods in Paris in 1955, three artificial lakes were created in the park: Orient Lake, Temple Lake, and Amance Lake. With an area of 6,177 acres (2,500 ha), Orient Lake is the largest among them. Particularly controversial at the time of its construction, it is now acknowledged for its significant ecological interest. Its aquatic flora, benefiting from variations in waters' level, feeds a rich avifauna that finds resting areas during its migrations.
