The lion is the largest carnivore on the African continent. The male leads a pride and provides protection to females and his own cubs. He watches over his territory. In return, lionesses do most of the hunting. The lion may take part of the hunting for the large preys, such as buffalos for instance. A lion may sometimes associate with other males to form a coalition and reign over large territories.
