Port-Cros National Park extends in the Mediterranean Sea around the Hyères Islands attached to the Var department. It was created on December 14, 1963, making it the oldest marine park in France and Europe. Its creation decree was amended on May 4, 2012, following the reconfiguration and redefinition of its various spaces after consultation with local stakeholders. Port-Cros National Park is now organized into three distinct areas divided between its historical and geographic heart (photo), its membership area, and its adjacent maritime zone.
