The plan Qatar National Vision 2030
Doha, the capital of Qatar, has tripled in size in the last twenty years. With its suburbs stretching into the desert, the city is now home to over 40% of the country’s population. Increasingly heavy traffic, countless construction sites and high temperatures are all contributing to a deterioration in air quality. On average, the concentration of fine particles is two to three times higher than international standards. With its development plan Qatar National Vision 2030, designed in 2008, the country has a comprehensive roadmap, one of the objectives of which is to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. The plan includes the electric transition of all public transport, the planting of one million trees, the establishment of solar farms and the construction of naturally air-conditioned eco-districts such as Msheireb in the historic city centre of Doha.
