The perimeter of Briançonnais is variable. The common meaning associates it with the valleys which meet in the city of Briançon. Geographically, it is assimilated to the hydrographic basin of the Haute Durance upstream of the Roche de Rame to the Maurienne in the north and Mont-Dauphin in the south. Historically, the period of the Grand Escarton de Briançon is the reference to delimit its contour.
