The Bochaine or land of Buëch is a region that groups together five cantons (Aspres-sur-Buëch, Veynes, Serres, Laragne-Montéglin, and Rosans) of the Hautes-Alpes department in the southern Alps. It corresponds approximately to the basin of the Petit and Grand Buëch, the term Bochaine designating more specifically the upper part of the valley of the Grand Buëch. This mid-mountain land with poor soil mainly made up of marl and alluvium covers 620 square miles (998 km²). It is dominated by the mountains of Aujour (6,017 ft / 1,834 m) and Céüse (6,614 ft / 2,016 m) and culminates at Rocher Rond (8,047 ft / 2,453 m). It is limited to the south by the mountain of Chabre (4,435 ft / 1,352 m).
