Cleaning the hooves

While of a rustic nature, the Cotentin donkey (Equus asinus) cannot remain without care for its very fragile feet. It has the reputation of being sure-footed, provided that its hooves are healthy and in good condition. Just like the horse's, the donkey's hoof permanently grows in an upward direction. Cleaning hooves must be daily, especially after each ride or work session. The sole and the gaps are emptied of all impurities, mud, stones, and grass. If need be, the fork is trimmed slightly, with any excess horn being removed.
