The walrus (Odobenus rosmarus) is a marine mammal of the Northern Hemisphere. It lives on the Arctic pack ice, ice floes, rocky shores and in the coastal waters, moving more than 18.6 miles (30 km) inland in strong wind or extreme weather conditions. The Canadian Arctic is home to a population of a dozen thousand individuals.
