The Louis Vuitton Foundation is located on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, right next to the Jardin d’Acclimatation. Created in the Second Empire, the garden inspired by Hyde Park in London was designed by the engineer Alphand and the landscape architect Barillet-Deschamps, at the request of the Emperor Napoleon III and the Prefect of the Seine, Baron Haussmann. From 2007 onwards, the Foundation’s worksite provided an opportunity to redesign the entire garden area nearby. Three hectares were replanted with Cappadocian maples, red oaks, and heart-leaved lime trees, while a large area, the Green Mirror, was grassed over.
