The lynx in the Jura
0
0
The lynx’s extreme discretion makes it very rare and difficult to observe. The feline is not, however, fierce nor dangerous towards man. The last mention of its presence in the Jura massif dates from 1885 ; a century later it was back thanks to its reintroduction from Switzerland in 1971. Since then, the species has become well established in the region which has the most demographically active and most important population nucleus in France. All the favorable forest habitats in the south of the Jura massif are occupied by the lynx, from the high border chain in the east to the Bresse plain in the west, and it continues to colonize new territories towards the north in the Doubs department.
