River of the southwest of France in the Aquitaine basin, the Lot is a tributary of the Garonne. The river has its source in the Cevennes, at an altitude of 4,265 feet (1,300 m) and crosses four departments: Lozère, Aveyron, Lot and Lot-et-Garonne. If the Lot used to be very navigable, nowadays, tourists mainly practice kayaking and canoeing. One can also go for a ride in a gabarre (a barge ride) to admire the regional heritage, such as the medieval village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.
