The village of Beaumont-en-Auge overlooks the Touques valley at an altitude of 295 ft (90 m). Five miles (8 km) away from Deauville-Trouville and the sea visible on a clear day, it is surrounded by typical Normandy bocages and half-timbered houses. Due to a significant fire, they were all rebuilt after the 17th century. Pierre-Simon Laplace, a mathematician, physicist, and astronomer, was born in Beaumont-en-Auge.
