A life-size model of the Ariane 5 launcher is on display at the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace (Air and Space Museum) at Le Bourget. An innovative launcher, Ariane 5 is also the most reliable in the world. The Ariane 5 programme, which has been available in five versions since 1996, adapts to the weight of the satellites carried. The Ariane 5-ECA structure comprises a cryogenic core (EPC) with a cryogenic upper stage (ESC) and two solid rocket boosters (EAP) on either side. The 30-metre high boosters are fired in conjunction with the EPC’s Vulcain II engine. The second stage has the task of sending the payload into the predefined orbit.
