The largest water reservoir in France, Serre-Ponçon lake is the second artificial lake in Europe by its capacity (1.2 billion cubic meters) and the third by its surface area (17.4 sqmi / 28.2 km²). It constitutes the water reservoir of Provence to which it distributes 200 million cubic meters for agriculture and drinking water supply. It is also the French baseline in terms of multi-use management of a site initially dedicated to the hydrological balance of a region which has become a major place of nautical and tourist activity.
