Howler monkeys (Alouatta) have no fixed social hierarchy within their groups to manage conflicts and rivalries between individuals. They also do not engage in the communal grooming nor delousing used by other primates for group cohesion and tension reduction. The researchers believe that games between adults of the type of those seen in this photo play this key role in regulating the relations within the social group.
