The inter-war period saw a growing interest in air raids and their pilots. From 1919 onwards, aviators took every risk and flew to Morocco, Newfoundland (from Ireland), or Rangoon (in Burma). Tragedies were followed by feats, such as the disappearance of Charles Nungesser and François Coli in 1927 during their attempt to cross the Atlantic, two weeks before Charles Lindbergh’s feat (New York-Le Bourget in 33 hours 27 minutes). Women also took up the challenge, such as Adrienne Bolland (crossing the Andes in 1921) or the American Amelia Earhart (crossing the Atlantic in 1932).
