The Théâtre de l'Archipel in Perpignan is a relatively recent project whose construction took place in several phases. In 2005, the Atelier Jean Nouvel in Paris and the Metra et Associates firm won an architecture competition. Then, the years 2006 and 2007 were devoted to the design and construction of the Centre Dramatique National de Théâtre, the theater's official name. Nicknamed Le Grenat (The Garnet) because of its color and architecture, it pays tribute to the emblematic stone of the Roussillon region.
