From the upper garden, a large staircase leads to the entrance to the grand bastion of Haut-Koenigsbourg. The door is surmounted by a lintel extolling the merits of Kaiser Wilhelm II at the origin of the restoration. This heavily fortified area defended the weaker part of the fortress thanks to its two towers, crenelated walls, and cannons. It had to be able to withstand artillery fire from the west of the rocky outcrop. From the north tower of Haut-Koenigsbourg, stand two castles, the Ortenberg and the Oedenbourg, on the neighboring summits.
