0
The fort on the Petit Bé islet is located off the coast of Saint-Malo, within canon range of the ramparts. From the fort, the view extends over the entire Emerald Coast, from Cape Fréhel to the Pointe de la Varde, via the Rance river, Dinard and Saint-Lunaire. Built by Vauban, the military architect of King Louis XIV, to protect the town from English incursions, the fort was owned by the French army until 1885. Retroceded to the city of Saint-Malo, the Petit Bé fort was left abandoned. In 2000, a long lease for a period of forty years was signed with a private individual responsible for renovating the 17th century fort and opening it to the public.
