Many mammals, included cats like lions, have a behavior known has flehmen. They may be observed sniffing deeply and pulling back the top lip. In this way, they try to catch olfactory informations through the organ of Jacoson, or vomeronasal organ, located between the palate and the nose. This organ has chemoreceptors that allow these animals to analyze hormones, and in particular to identify the reproductive status of females. Also, it could be used to analyze an environment or a situation.
