Like many species, zebras practice flehmen. Flehmen is a special attitude consisting in rolling up the upper lip to bring air into the vomeronasal organ on the lower surface of the nose. Thanks to this practice, any smell is analyzed, even by newborn zebras. This is also how stallions measure the hormonal rate of the mares in heat.
