Vauluisant Museum in Troyes houses the Hosiery Museum, inaugurated in 1948. The city had a flourishing textile industry for a long time, with up to 25,000 workers dedicated to this field. For more than a century, Troyes was the spearhead of the French knitting production. The collections of the museum display knitting machines and looms, the oldest of which date from the 18th century. The building also comprises a reconstitution of a 19th-century artisan's workshop, and a movie recounts the daily life of the textile industry's workers.
