Despite the destruction of its abbey church in 1792, Royaumont Abbey has retained its medieval architecture. At the end of the 19th century, restorations undertaken by the Sisters of the Sainte Famille de Bordeaux, in the neo-gothic style, allowed the conventual buildings to regain their original appearance. The dormitory (photo) and the monks’ refectory, the cloister, the kitchens, the boiler room, the latrines, and the laymen’ building have all survived the passage of time and various purposes. The 18th-century abbey palace is still visible in the heart of the Bonnet wood, for a long time called the Royaumont forest.
