The Domaine de Trianon in Versailles

The Domaine de Trianon is a place of intimacy, built by Louis XIV for his personal use, found at the end of the Grand Canal’s northern branch. Nestled in the greenery of the park of Versailles, the Porcelain Trianon was replaced in 1686 by the Grand Trianon. The pink marble and porphyry palace housed his meetings with his favourites, Madame de Montespan and Madame de Maintenon. The Petit Trianon was completed in 1768 under Louis XV. The estate was strongly influenced by Napoleon I who had the rooms rearranged. But it is above all the light shadow of Queen Marie-Antoinette, the wife of Louis XVI, that still hangs over the Petit Trianon.
