The decline of traditional guardians

After the Second World War, the profession of guardian underwent a major change. The guard with a planted staff disappeared in favor of fenced pastures, constituting the end of an era of free grazing for the animals. The extinction of the traditional herd guardian also meant the decline of the professionalization of the trade, now mostly carried out by amateurs.
