The Flowery Urchin (Toxopneustes maculatus) is a tropical venomous sea urchin endemic of the Marquesas. It lives in sheltered bays, coral lagoons, seagrass beds or shallow sandy bottoms from the surface to 49.2ft (15m) deep, which makes it even more dangerous. Mainly herbivorous, it feeds on algae and seagrasses and can measure up to 5.9inches (15cm) in diameter. Like all echinoderms, it is devoid of brain, eyes, ears. A nervous network performs the functions.
