At the highest level of the food chain, the jaguar carries with it the biodiversity of the areas it inhabits. It is a decreasing species; the biggest threat it faces is deforestation. It fragments its habitat, whose area is estimated at about 9 million km². Therefore, a continuous ecological corridor crossing the American continent from north to south has been set up to allow it to move on a sufficient area to its conservation.
