The bell tower of Mont Sainte-Odile
0
0
Mont Sainte-Odile is a major site of Alsatian heritage that welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year. In 1924, its bell tower was inaugurated, replacing the smaller edifice which existed until then. It is flanked by a turret dominated by an imposing statue of Sainte Odile blessing the plain of Alsace. This 13 ft high (4 m) representation of the patroness saint of the region is the work of Colmarian sculptor Alfred Klem. The bell tower also contains a set of 31 bells, the largest of which weighs five tons.
