Courageous and faithful to its master, the Inuit Eskimo dog (canis familiaris borealis) has long been used by aboriginal Arctic populations as a pack and draft animal as well as an indispensable hunting companion. Robust and frugal, it can travel dozens of miles a day pulling a heavy hitch and feed on a piece of frozen seal every other day. Nowadays, although supplanted by snowmobiling, it is still at the heart of the commercial polar bear sport hunting.
