The bocage is characteristic of the landscapes of Normandy and, more generally, of the west of France. It consists of a traditional division of the meadows, groves, and agricultural zones (orchards, fields) by an enclosure made up of an upraised ground or a hedge intended to delimit the land. Beyond its aesthetic quality, this embocagement of the landscape presents several interests and performs many functions such as soil conservation, hydraulic and climate regulation, maintenance of interspecific balances, and improvement of production.
