The cradle of champagne
0
0
The village of Hautvillers, crowned by the forest, is the cradle of champagne. Dom Pérignon, the monk who discovered the champagne method and its famous bubbles, is buried there. Hautvillers Abbey and St Sindulphe’s Church are both Gothic treasures. The village centre has hardly changed with its stone streets and wrought iron signs as in the Middle Ages. All around, the vineyards run down to the Marne river, which flows below.
