The cradle of prestigious seaside resorts
0
0
Calvados, in Lower Normandy, extends its Côte Fleurie (Flowery Coast) from Merville-Franceville to the Seine estuary in Honfleur. From the end of the 19th century, the craze for sea bathing gave rise to prestigious seaside resorts such as Deauville, Trouville, Houlgate, and Cabourg. Over about 25 miles (40 km), the coastline alternates sandy beaches, pebbles, and high cliffs with an agricultural countryside of flowered groves and apple trees in blossom.
