With 2,62 to 4,26 ft (80 cm to 1.30 m) in length and 1,96 to 2,46 ft (60 to 75 cm) in height, the Eurasian lynx is the 3rd largest predator in Europe after the brown bear and the Eurasian wolf. It is recognizable by its stocky tail 0,5 to 0,65 ft (15 to 20 cm) long, ending in a black muff, and the black brushes at the end of its ears. Its wide hind legs prevent it from sinking into the snow. It is not a sprinter and favors leaping. During rut or challenge, the male lynx utters very hoarse, almost human cries.
