During its growth, the dome of the Sancy volcano elapsed due to its mass, giving birth to a dome-flow. This flow was accompanied by massive collapses and breaches (conglomerates of angular debris joined by natural cement). Below the top of the dome, erosion, especially glacial, created lava needles such as the Aiguilles du Diable (Devil’s needles) visible in this photo.
