Lavas are hard and gray magmatic rocks that come from volcanic eruptions. They are widely used to erect buildings in the Massif Central volcanic region, such as in Besse-et-Sainte-Anastaise. Their high resistance to frost, chemicals, heat, with a melting point at 2,732° F (1,500° C), as well as their low coefficient of expansion, makes them particularly suitable for construction.
