The Seine Musicale Auditorium

The Seine Musicale project was born in 2005 when the Renault factory on the Ile Seguin in Boulogne-Billancourt was dismantled. Created by the Hauts-de-Seine department and designed by architects Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines, the Seine Musicale was conceived with respect to the Seguin island and its industrial past. The transparent glass sphere, whose wooden structure seems to float on the river, houses the Auditorium, a 1,150-seat concert hall dedicated to non-amplified music. A large sail of photovoltaic panels (10,764 sq. ft. or 1,000 m²) rotates around the sphere throughout the day to capture sunlight.
