The decorating workshop

In this workshop of the Lalique glassworks, the decorators carry out meticulous tasks. Some give relief to the crystal by applying coloured enamels. The crystal piece is then slowly annealed. In the foreground, a worker is checking a Mossi vase, whose shiny transparent crystal cabochons emerge from a satin background. With a stylus, she erases the small imperfections that still remain, even after polishing. If the flaws are embedded in the paste – and therefore cannot be corrected – the vase is scrapped and remelted. This is the price of Lalique quality.
