The Unterlinden Museum features the largest collection of Rhenish art in France. Among the late medieval masterpieces on display in this cloister room is a woodblock painting from 1510, the reverse side of which depicts St. Wendelin of Trier and the front side St. Ursula and her companions. In the centre, protected by a glass case, is a Christ of Sorrows made of limewood and carved by Martin Hoffmann, circa 1515-1520. On the right, hanging on the wall, are carved fragments of an oak stall completed in 1493 that was in the Antonine Commandery in Issenheim. The central figure is St. Lawrence, represented with a grill, the instrument of his martyrdom.
