The Domaine d’Esthine perpetuates the Cotentin donkey (Equus asinus), whose breed was officially recognised by the French Ministry of Agriculture in August 1997. The Cotentin donkey studbook was opened on that date and it is managed by the Cotentin Donkey Association. The latter’s vocation is to develop and regulate its breeding. It also contributes to the maintenance of the herd book, implementing the policy of genetic improvement and selection of the breed. Finally, it helps and advises breeders, as well as users and amateurs of the Cotentin donkey.
