René Lalique set up a glass factory in Wingen-sur-Moder (Bas-Rhin) in 1921 to mass-produce tableware. In his Alsatian factory, he produced goblets and stemware sets (photo), some of which were named after Alsatian cities such as Strasbourg, Mulhouse, and Colmar. René Lalique also used glass in interior architecture: he decorated the carriages of the Orient-Express and created the lighting for the dining room of the liner “Normandie”. Opened in July 2011 in Wingen-sur-Moder, the Lalique Museum exhibits around 650 pieces created by René Lalique and his successors.
