The art of toy making : a thousand-year-old savoir-faire
0
0
In the Haut-Jura, the making of toys is linked to the pilgrimages to the Abbey of Saint-Claude and the abundance of wood from the region. After the French Revolution of 1789, the power of the Church weakened and it put an end to numerous pilgrimages. However, the manufactures remained. The techniques of making wooden objects are perfected and the bow lathe is replaced by the wheel lathe which is operated by a maneuver. The production of turners is improving and increasing.
