Less famous than the landscapes of western granitic Corsica, the landscapes of eastern Corsica - apart from the coastal plain of the background - are made up of varieties of easily chipped schists and more resistant ophiolites. The combination of the two gives rise to a succession of acute reliefs with thick, broadly wooded soils and narrow ridges and multiple valleys with more or less deep gorges.
