The 111 Buddicom no.33 is the oldest of all the locomotives exhibited at the Cité du Train-Patrimoine SNCF. It was designed by the English engineer William Barber Buddicom who gave it its name. Built from noble materials such as oak, copper, and steel, it is a true work of art. Powerful, it could pull trains weighing 80 tons at a speed of 37 mph (60 km/h). Produced in the suburbs of Rouen in several hundred units, the 111 Buddicom was one of the most used steam locomotives of its time. Put into service from 1842, they were withdrawn from the railway network after 70 years of operation.
